FSU Arts & Ideas: Good Trouble
The 2021–2022 Framingham State University Arts & Ideas series is now available on the FSU Arts & Ideas website.
FSU has an extremely diverse program of events centered on the theme of Good Trouble as described by congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis. The goal is to create dialogue across campus and to learn together how to speak up and speak out, do the right thing, and cause necessary trouble.

Framingham Centre Common

The Framingham History Center (FHC) is very excited to present this FREE community event featuring art-in-the-making on the Framingham Centre Common and its environs. The inspiration for this event comes from the watercolor "View of the Centre Common of Framingham," painted by Captain Daniel Bell in 1808. View this painting as part of the FHC's "Framingham's Top 10" exhibit, and then tour the Common to see how today’s artists interpret the same space 213 years later.
Ten local artists will set up their easels on and around the Common to paint as Captain Bell did - en plein air. Watch the artists at work and take in the history of this iconic New England setting either on a self-guided or docent-led tour. The docent tours will begin every half hour from 2:00– 3:30 p.m. Also enjoy fun for the whole family with a special scavenger hunt that includes making art!
Artists’ paintings will be available for purchase at an online auction to benefit the Framingham History Center. This limited time auction will run from October 5-9. More details to follow at framinghamhistory.org.

- Free scanning. Scan to email, a USB drive, a printer, or Google Drive.
- Free copying in black and white or color.
What to Do When You Arrive
Please come to the Pearl Street side of the library, and park in the designated spots on the right, just past the Pearl Street entrance. (This is the old Boys and Girls Club building.) There will be signs directing you there. You will be admitted through the Pearl Street entrance two minutes before your appointment time. Please observe the safety precautions in the upcoming section.
Safety Measures and Precautions
Safety for our patrons, staff and the community is our first priority. Library staff observe all safety precautions and computers are cleaned after each use. Staff will be able to help you from a safe distance using remote control software from the Reference Station. Please observe the following safety precautions:
- If you are feeling ill, including a fever or cough, do not keep your appointment.
- Masks are required at all times. If you do not have one, we will provide one for you.
- Social distancing of at least 6 feet must be maintained at all times.
- Please make use of our hand sanitizing stations.

Appointment: No appointment required
Format: Walk-up testing only
Cost: FREE; no insurance required
Test Results: People will receive results in approximately 72 hours from Fallon Ambulance, who is conducting the tests.
Location: South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC), 7 Bishop Street, Framingham
Date: Starting, Monday, August 31
Time: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 3-6 p.m.
Format: Walk-up (limited parking available on-site)
Eligibility: Open to everyone; symptomatic and asymptomatic
Cost: FREE; no health insurance required
