Silhouette Fundraiser for the Friends of the Library a Success

Kids of all ages, from babies to adults, thoroughly enjoyed having their silhouette portraits created at the Christa McAuliffe Branch Library on Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29.  The event, sponsored by the Friends of the Framingham Library, featured Massachusetts artist Jean Comerford, who cuts these lovely portraits freehand, with no shadow or tracing.  In just minutes Ms. Comerford captured the image of her models, and they walked away with a special treasure.

The Friends, who hold 10 monthly book sales a year to raise money for the library, decided to try something new with the silhouettes fundraiser.  When Friends volunteer Marsha Farmelant heard from other libraries about the popularity of Ms. Comerford and her unique craft, she was intrigued, and set out to bring her to Framingham.  The artist, who can create an image in just 10 minutes, travels throughout the Commonwealth in support of libraries, preschools, museums, and more.

Everyone had good things to say about the event.  Several people commented that they had wanted to have this done for years and were so happy it came to Framingham.  Another exclaimed that it made the perfect Mother’s Day gift…for herself!

The Friends of the Library, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the work of the Framingham Library, will use the funds raised to help pay for library programming, including concerts and films, Summer Reading, museum passes, and much more.
