Haiti, Once Upon A Time with Charlot Lucien

Krik? Krak! These words are a traditional beginning to Haitian oral storytelling. When someone is ready to recite a story, they say “krik?”, and the listeners respond with “krak!” Celebrate this Haitian tradition with a fantastic event featuring local Haitian storyteller Charlot Lucien.

Scholar, storyteller, artist, and founder of the Haitian Artists Assembly of Massachusetts, Charlot Lucien presents on Haiti’s culture and history in various international academic and cultural venues, often examining the intersections between the US abolitionist movement and the Haitian revolution. He uses art to raise awareness about civil rights and humanitarian issues impacting Haitians in Haiti and abroad and to help change entrenched stereotypes about Haiti. He has won numerous awards for his work.
