Teen Tuesdays: Munchkin!
Munchkin is a card based, epic fantasy quest full of dragons, barbarians, monsters, gold, and cursed poultry.
Join us at the library to create your character, and join our quest for treasure and glory. Snacks will be provided for weary warriors.
Main Library Book Club: A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
Ove is a complete curmudgeon with a short fuse. People call him “the bitter neighbor from hell.” But, behind his gruff exterior there is a sadness. That is, until his life is turned upside down when a chatty family moves in next door. Literacy Unlimited Kick-off Pizza Party
Let's get together! Bring your friends and family to Kick-off Pizza Party (Framingham) on Wednesday, Sept. 7th, 5:30pmto 7pm in the Literacy Center. The party will be followed by a Brazilian jazz concert by Sambeleza in the Costin Room. Kick-off Pizza Party (Natick) will be held Friday, September 16th, noon to 1:30pm in the Prunaret Room. Be there!
Sambeleza in Concert!
Sambeleza performs a wide variety of Brazilian songs—both old and new—with a jazz twist. Featured composers include Tom Jobim, Ivan Lins and Ary Barroso, as well as younger composers like Djavan, Dani and Debora Gurgel and Arlindo Cruz. To round out the mix, the group also performs a number of original compositions. Refreshments.

McAuliffe Branch Book Discussion: Brooklyn by Colm Toibin
Award winning author Colm Toibin delivers an engaging story of Irish immigrant Eilis Lacey’s experiences having to move to Brooklyn on her own to find a job and then being torn between the life she has found there and returning home to her family. Colm Toibin’s wonderful writing depicts life in the 1950s, Eilis living in a boarding house, attending dances, studying at Brooklyn College, her aching homesickness and the people and events that shape the person she becomes.

Seed Lending Library Talk
Tom Hanson from Hanson’s Farm, a fifth generation farm on Nixon Road in Framingham, will join us for an informal talk on The Hanson’s Tomato and Other Seed-saving Tips. Hanson’s Farm has a farm stand, farmers’ markets, pick-your-own vegetables, and C.S.A. shares available. This will also be a chance for you to swap seeds or cuttings from your garden!

Antiques Appraisal Day
Is it treasure or is it trash? Find out what your favorite vintage items may really be worth!
Sherry Cohen of Up Your Attic Antiques, featured at the Library’s September 9th Brown Bag, will be presenting verbal appraisals of a variety of items.
You may bring up one or two items to be evaluated for a donation of $5.00 each item.
Those interested in having items appraised can bring in their items and register on the day of the event, or they can preregister by calling the Friends of the Framingham Library at (508) 881-8078. No weapons will be appraised.

With Historical Interpreter: Judith Kalaora, Actress, Founder of History at Play
Judith Kalaora brings history to life as she portrays Lucy Stone (1811-1893), a woman who is never one to take the easy road. In this fiery presentation, Lucy describes the tension of Antebellum Boston. Her discussion touches the gender caste system and also encompasses the fierce abolitionist movement. She demanded that her marriage vows be rewritten and refused to take her husband’s surname, leading to the expression of a “Lucy Stoner” to describe a woman who does just that. Women were evolving from successful abolitionists to struggling suffragists. so come along for the ride!
