Journey Back to the Big Band Era

The Framingham History Center is bringing big band music back to Framingham honoring the legacy of The Meadows and Vaughn Monroe!

One of the most popular entertainers of his time, Vaughn Monroe was a classically-trained baritone vocalist who started his career as a trumpet player on the road in the 1930s. During WWII, he entertained troops, earning him the moniker “the voice that won the war.” In the 1940s, he opened his own nightclub, “The Meadows,” on Rt. 9 in Framingham where he performed with his big band orchestra and many residents of Framingham danced the night away. Vaughn Monroe composed many popular songs, including his famous theme, “Racing with the Moon.”

On Friday, September 20th at 8pm at our historic Village Hall on the Common, and for only $35, you can go back in time and experience Dan Gabel and the Vaughn Monroe 18-Piece live orchestra. We will be offering swing dance lessons one hour before the band starts playing, food concessions and 1940s-themed inspired mocktails! You are welcome to wear an outfit or accessory inspired by the 1940s dress style.
