Go Outside! Challenges

Text reads nature collection. Bring a bag with you to collect whatever you find. Find the following: something smooth, rough, a round rock, a pointy rock, an acorn, a flower, a pine cone, a leaf with a smooth side, something you find beautiful.     Test reads bark rubbing. Look at the trees around you. Look closely at the patterns on their bark. Choose your favorite tree bark. Place your paper up against the bark. Use your crayon to rub the pattern of the bark onto your paper. Voila! You have made a bark rubbing!

Go Outside Challenge: Leaf Rubbing. Materials: A couple different leaves, paper, crayons or colored pencils. 1. Put a leaf upside down on the table. 2. place a piece of paper over the leaf. 3. while holding the paper and the leaf in place, use the side of a crayon to rub firmly across the leaf. 4. you should be able to see the veins and the outline of the leaf. 5. when you finish, choose a new leaf and start over! Go Outside! Night Challenges

Go Outside Nighttime challenge. Constellation Identification. The word constellation comes from the latin word constellatio which means      Go Outside Nighttime challenge. The Big Dipper. What you are looking for

Go Outside Nighttime challenge. The Little Dipper. What you are looking for: Once you've located the big dipper, you can easily find the little dipper. Notice that a line from the two outermost stars in the bowl of the big dipper points to the North star. The North Star marks the tip of the handle of the little dipper.     Go Outside Night time challenge: Orion. What you are looking for: Look for 3 stars in near perfect aliment. This is Orion's belt. Once you've located the belt,

Go Outside Night time challenge: The Great Square of Pegasus. What you are looking for: Find the big dipper and draw an imaginary line from any big dipper handle star through the north star, and going twice the distance, you'll always land on the w or m shaped constellation Cassiopeia. A line from the north star through the star caph of cassiopeia bright you to the great square of pegasus.     Go Outside nighttime challenge: Cassiopeia the queen. What you are looking for: Look for the constellation's distinctive shape- a w or m shape up in the sky! This is one of the easiest constellations to find.

Activities

Text on image reads Newspaper planters. Reuse old newspaper to make a planter to seeds. Once your seeds sprout you can place your newspaper planter directly in the ground. The newspaper will break down and your plant will continue to grow. Snap a picture of your creation and tag us on Social Media. Materials needed: 1 newspaper page 1 canned good Garden soil Seed of your choosing.1. Lay out your newspaper page so that the long side is facing you. 2. Fold your newspaper into thirds, top to bottom. 3. Place your can on one end of the folded newspaper. 4. Tightly roll the newspaper around the can. 5. Roll until you reach the end of the paper. 6. Gently wiggle the can out of the newspaper slightly, so there is about 2” of rolled paper no longer hugging the can.  7. Take the 2” of paper you just freed & tuck it up under the can. Make sure you tuck all the excess paper tightly so that your soil will stay in place. 8. Gently wiggle out the rest of the can from the paper. 9. Grab your soil, moisten slightly so that the soil is damp like a sponge but not dripping. 10. Fill the newspaper planter with moist soil. 11. Plant your seed according to the directions on the seed packet. 12. Leave in a sunny window & keep moist.     Text on image reads 1000 paper cranes. With nicer weather on our way, what better way to spend outside than to make chalk designs and pictures on the ground! Instructions: 1. Add 1 cup of water to 1 cup of cornstarch in a mixing bowl. 2. Stir until there are no clumps of cornstarch. 3. Pour the mixture into the cups of muffin tin or into small plastic containers. 4. Add a few drops of your choice of food coloring to each cup and mix until fully blended. 5. Go outside and paint your chalk on the pavement!

Text reads DIY Puffy Paint, Learn how to make your own puffy paint to make some fun 3D paintings! Supplies: - Shaving Cream - White School Glue - Paper - Mixing bowls - Food Coloring - Paint Brushes. Instructions: 1. Add equal parts shaving cream and white school glue in separate mixing bowls. 2. Stir until mixed. 3. Add a few drops of your choice of food coloring to each cup and mix until fully blended. 4. Grab some paper and a paintbrush and paint away! 5. Let dry before displaying your artwork.
