Framingham Public Library Announces Brand New Early Literacy Playspace!

The Framingham Public Library will be hosting a ribbon cutting for the grand opening of the new Early Literacy Playspace in the Children’s Room at the Main Library on Saturday, August 5th at 11:00am. The public is invited to celebrate the grand opening followed by interactive play in the Playspace, which includes a play kitchen and farmer’s market stand, wall mounted activities, light tables, sensory tables and more!

The Early Literacy Playspace and its educational toys, games, and activities were funded by an LSTA grant (Library Services and Technology Act) the Framingham Public Library received in October of 2016 from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. This federally funded “Mind in the Making” grant furthers the Library’s commitment to Early Literacy to our entire community, and offers the opportunity to provide under-served children with early educational play and activities crucial to early development and school readiness. The toys, activities and games purchased with the grant funds are aimed at early education and social development and at helping parents and caregivers better understand how they can also learn at home.

Framingham Public Library receives a $1,000 grant from Sisters in Crime!

Sisters in Crime, a nationwide organization formed in 1987 to promote the development of women crime writers has awarded its monthly $1000 "We Love Libraries" grant to the Framingham Public Library! Three mystery loving librarians submitted the creative photograph above in application for the grant, which aims to recognize the role libraries play in supporting the work of women mystery writers.

To celebrate the receipt of the grant the Library will host a Brown Bag program on Friday August 4th, featuring a small panel of mystery writers from the Sisters In Crime membership who will talk about the writing process.
