Sisters in Crime, a nationwide organization formed in 1987 to promote the development of women crime writers has awarded its monthly $1000 "We Love Libraries" grant to the Framingham Public Library! Three mystery loving librarians submitted the creative photograph above in application for the grant, which aims to recognize the role libraries play in supporting the work of women mystery writers.
To celebrate the receipt of the grant the Library will host a Brown Bag program on Friday August 4th, featuring a small panel of mystery writers from the Sisters In Crime membership who will talk about the writing process.
Kids of all ages, from babies to adults, thoroughly enjoyed having their silhouette portraits created at the Christa McAuliffe Branch Library on Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29. The event, sponsored by the Friends of the Framingham Library, featured Massachusetts artist Jean Comerford, who cuts these lovely portraits freehand, with no shadow or tracing. In just minutes Ms. Comerford captured the image of her models, and they walked away with a special treasure.
Remaining McAuliffe Library engraved bricks will be installed this Spring! For Mother’s Day or for a recent graduate, make donations to the FPLF in your loved one’s honor! Please contact Ruth Winett at donate@fplf.org.
You may also make a donation by shopping at Amazon from the Framingham Public Library Support page, and a percentage of your purchases will go to the Library. Thank you for your generous support!
Soon we will install a second round of engraved bricks at the McAuliffe Branch Library. This will bring the total number of bricks to nearly 900! The FPLF continues to seek funds to match the $91,000 grant awarded to the FPL for improvements to the Costin Room’s audio and video systems. These improvements will bring Library programs to audiences at home, as well as in the Library. The FPLF appreciates the community’s generous support of both Libraries.
