Cussy May Carter is a traveling Librarian. She is part of the Pack Horse Literacy Project, a WPA project, to deliver books and other reading materials to Appalachia. Cussy is also one of the blue-skinned people of Kentucky and she encounters prejudice and suspicion as she brings her love of reading to the people of rural America.
