In 1865, a series of gruesome murders occur in post-Civil War Boston. The Dante Club, a group of writers including Oliver Wendell Holmes and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, is working secretly on a translation of Dante’s Divine Comedy and observe that the murders are imitating the tortures of Hell’s punishments in The Inferno.
