    The Evolution of Hip-Hop Politics: From Conscious Hip-Hop to Presidential Elections

    GUEST SPEAKER: Bakari Kitwana

    A contributor to the newly released anthology 400 Souls: A Community History of African America, 1619-2019 (edited by Dr. Ibram Kendi and Dr. Keisha Blain), hip-hop author and activist Bakari Kitwana will speak on his essay, “The Convergence of Civil Rights/ Black Power and Hip-Hop 1984-1989,” which documents the evolution of Black political thought from the Baby Boom generation to the Hip-Hop generation. Dr. Maytha Alhassen hosts the program.
