Dalgona coffee, or as I like to refer to it, Frothy Coffee, is getting a lot of hype during this time of quarantine. Is it because we’re all staying home without access to our favorite fancy drive-thru coffee beverages? Is it because we have nothing better to do than sit and watch hours of TikTok videos? Who is to say? This beverage has been polarizing, with people either loving it and making it daily (because we’ve got the time), or people spitting it out after the first sip. To make this masterful creation you will need equal parts instant coffee, sugar (or granulated sugar substitute), and hot water. My preferred recipe calls for 3 tbsp of each because I need that caffeine and I need it now!
In a bowl, combine your instant coffee, sugar, and hot water. Whip it with a whisk or with a hand mixture until it forms peaks. This takes about 2 minutes of whipping with a hand mixer and about 10 minutes with a whisk. If you’ve been missing arm sessions at the gym, go for the whisk. In a separate glass, pour your desired amount of milk (or milk substitute) then carefully spoon your whipped coffee mixture on top of your milk. Voila! You’ve made Frothy Coffee. Once you’ve taken a couple photos of the coffee for instagram, go ahead and gently stir the mixture in to your milk and take a sip.
