Come celebrate AAPI Month by painting the national flower and national tree of Thailand! The ratchaphruek is referred to as the “golden shower / rain tree” because of its beautiful cascading golden flowers, a color which represents unity, harmony and glory. In Thai, the ratchaphruek means “the royal tree” and is associated with the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts!
Our Commitment to Cultural Respect: At Framingham Public Library, we believe in honoring and respecting all cultures. This event aims to educate participants about the cultural significance of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Our activity is designed to inspire creativity while fostering cultural sensitivity and respect.
Exhibiting artist Jennifer Davis Carey gives voice to untold stories in her American Histories series. Multiple works in this series explore the lived experiences of her grandmother, Dellie. In one piece, Carey assembles her grandmother’s personal items which share an aspect of the United States Home Front during WWII. Join Katherine Tako-Girard, Learning & Engagement Coordinator, in a discussion about Carey’s Dellie the Riveter. This piece brings attention to Black Rosie Riveters and Dellie’s contribution to the war effort at the Brooklyn Navy Yard during WWII.
This program is a collaboration with Framingham Reads Together. Visit here for more information.
