Twitch Stream & Chat with the Teen Librarian

Grades 6-12

We're all still cooped up at home, so our Friday afternoon hangouts continue! This week I'll be streaming some of my favorite games of all time live on Twitch. Come watch me make a fool out of myself as I play all the games I loved when I was your age (and even younger!).

Link to watch our channel this week (and any future times I do this) is: www.twitch.tv/fplteens

NOTE: Even though you're at home and we're not in the library, the same rules apply. That means no cursing, no bullying, etc. In the words of the immortal Bill & Ted, "Be excellent to each other!"

Sci-Fi Book Group: Rendezvous with Rama, by Arthur C. Clarke (Online meeting) thumbnail Photo

Sci-Fi Book Group: Rendezvous with Rama, by Arthur C. Clarke (Online meeting)

In the year 2130, an enormous celestial object appears outside the orbit of Jupiter. As it becomes clear that this is not an asteroid, astronauts launch a mission to rendezvous with Rama, as the object has been dubbed. As they get closer, images reveal a smooth surfaced cylindrical spaceship of highly intelligent design, promising first contact with an alien species.

Led by Marcy Maiorana. If you are new to the group and would like to participate, please email mmaiorana@minlib.net for instructions on how to join the Zoom meeting.

Teen Movie - Alita: Battle Angel

Grades 6-12

This week's Friday afternoon hangout will be our first movie! Just like anime club a few weeks ago, all you need to do is visit this link, and you'll be good to go. It will open up a private screening room in a browser app called Kosmi.io. If you create a Kosmi.io account, please use your real name as your username so we know who we're talking to. However, everything is browser based and you don't need to create an account or download anything to watch. Regardless, you will be able to watch along and chat with everyone in the room.

NOTE: Even though you're at home and we're not in the library, the same rules apply. That means no cursing, no bullying, etc. In the words of the immortal Bill & Ted, "Be excellent to each other!"

Game Time! thumbnail Photo

Game Time!

Grades 6-12

This week we're playing online games together! First up at 1 PM is Gartic.io, a Pictionary-like game where you have to draw something and have everyone guess what it is. Then, once we get sick of Gartic, we'll switch over to SmashKarts.io, a game where you drive around a track trying to pick up cartoonish weapons to attack all of your competitors with (sort of like the Battle Modes of Mario Kart).

To play, just click on the poster and fill out the registration form at the bottom of the page. I'll send everyone who registers a Zoom link. On Zoom we can chat about the games, and I'll send out the codes to the private rooms.

All Ages Book Discussion: Wonder, by R.J. Palacio thumbnail Photo

All Ages Book Discussion: Wonder, by R.J. Palacio

August Pullman is born with a facial deformity that prevents him from attending a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid —but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. Wonder begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include that of his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.

All ages and families welcome!

Led by Jillian Holmberg. Please email framinghamlibrarybookgroups@gmail.com to participate.
