Lois Levick became a member of Global Volunteers in 2003. She has participated in seven Global Volunteer programs. Most recently, she volunteered in Ventanilla, Peru at Sagrada Familia, a community of 800 abandoned and abused children and young adults. Program locations include Mississippi, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Ireland, Minnesota and Cuba. 

Global Volunteers is a US-based private, nonprofit international development organization that has pioneered short term international service programs (1 to 3 weeks) to enable regular people to help create, nurture and sustain the well-being of children worldwide.

Ai must tread carefully through the shifting political climate and alliances between neighboring states, but finds himself most bewildered by Winter’s inhabitants, who have no gender, except for a brief period each month called kemmer, when a person becomes male or female. What are the implications for society when a person may father a child one month and bear a child another? Led by Marcy Maiorana.

Lifelong Learning Lecture: Exploring the Arabian Peninsula: An Educator’s Visit to Oman and Qatar

Framingham resident, Dr. Kerry Dunne of the Weston Public Schools, will discuss how she was able to travel to Qatar and Oman and experience the juxtaposition of a modern, global economy with traditional ways of life in this region of the world. She will show photos of the natural splendor of Oman and the 21st Century skyline of Doha along with short videos of key concepts.

Book donations are needed & gratefully accepted during the sale or at the Library during the week.


Because of your continued support of the Friends, we are able to provide free movies, concerts, programs, museum passes, audio books, CDs, Children’s Room apps, and many other services to patrons and the Framingham community.
