Lifelong Learning Lecture: Conspiracy Theories & Why People Believe Them thumbnail Photo

Lifelong Learning Lecture: Conspiracy Theories & Why People Believe Them

Guest Speaker: Dr. Jon Huibregtse, Professor Emeritus, History, Framingham State University

Conspiracy theories have been part of history for a long time. A Charlestown minister started one of the first in the 1790s when he claimed that a secret organization called the Bavarian Illuminati was working to undermine Christianity and overthrow the civil government.

People believe these theories for a variety of reasons, such as wanting to belong to a group of like-minded individuals or helping them understand complex events. Exploring why people adhere to, and spread, such theories helps us to better understand the current political milieu of the United States.

D&D Campaign: The Quest - THIS PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY FULL

Welcome to Tor, a land of ancient magic, sleepy towns, and whispered legends. Life has always been simple—until now.

Strange things have been happening across the realm:
    •    Travelers speak of creatures never before seen, roaming the forests and skies…
    •    Entire villages report strange curses, spreading like wildfire without explanation…
    •    And in the darkest corners of the land, the dead are beginning to rise.

In the bustling town of Greybend, four strangers meet in a tavern for their very first mission.
Their task? Help sweet Old Lady Nessa with a rat problem in her cellar.
But what begins as a small job quickly spirals into something far greater—and far more dangerous—than anyone could have expected.

“The Quest” is a Dungeons & Dragons jump-in adventure perfect for new players and experienced adventurers alike. Dive into an epic story full of mystery, magic, monsters, and more!

All materials provided—just show up on time, ready to play! No experience needed. Just bring your imagination and your sense of adventure.

Dare to take the first step? The world of Tor awaits.

SIMULCAST: We the People Yo-Yo Ma plays Bach’s Cello Suites thumbnail Photo

SIMULCAST: We the People Yo-Yo Ma plays Bach’s Cello Suites

This November, Yo-Yo Ma will perform Bach’s complete suites for solo cello for the first time in one evening at home, in Boston. It’s music that he has offered to communities on all six continents, in moments of joy and in times of tragedy. For him it exemplifies how culture helps us to seek truth, build trust, and act in service.

This is more than a concert for Yo-Yo: it is an invitation to listen to each other and the world around us, to celebrate our community and the ways in which people all over the world—and here in Massachusetts—are bringing us together, creating shared space for connection, reflection, and action, and imagining a better future.
