Join local author Christine Omodi-Engola in a reading and discussion of her book Crimson Courageous.

Designed for people interested in improving their Spanish as a second language. All classes include pronunciation, writing exercises, basic communication skills, and simple conversations. Henry Ford’s Sudbury: Hidden in Plain Sight
Join local author Aline Kaplan to find out how Henry Ford changed Sudbury in the early 20th century and what elements of his Colonial Village project remain. Henry Ford purchased the Wayside Inn in 1923 as the anchor for his planned Colonial Village—a working farming community of 300 people. He bought some existing buildings, moved structures in from other places, and built still more from the ground up. Over the years some were destroyed, but many remain. People live in some of these structures and drive past others without knowing their history. Learn which structures remain from Ford’s historic project and where to find them.

AARP Tax Aide
IRS trained and certified AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will be available (by appointment only) to prepare your 2025 Federal and State Income tax returns. This program is designed to assist all people of low to middle income with special attention given to those aged 60 and older. This is a free program that is unable to process complex returns. A list of documentation required for your appointment will be emailed to you with your confirmation and also available at the McAuliffe branch library.

Come and learn how to make a flag-book zine. The flag book is a variation of an accordion fold with extra “pages” sticking out. Then you can decorate your zine with pencils, markers, and collage material from recycled library books and magazines.

Lifelong Learning Lecture: The Boston Molasses Flood
Guest speaker: Dr. Jon Huibregtse, Professor Emeritus, History, Framingham State University
In January 1919, a molasses storage tank in Boston North End collapsed, flooding the neighborhood with approximately 2 million gallons of molasses. The 25-foot high tidal wave of molasses destroyed buildings, almost knocked over the elevated railroad track, and killed 21 people. Learn the reasons for the tank’s collapse and its aftermath which led to greater regulation of construction and a huge (for the period) civil judgment against the tank’s owner.

Seed Lending Library: Seed Stories- Starting Culturally Meaningful Plants
Safiyat Hamiss of Tasty Harvests will lead this opening session by sharing seed stories—how seeds, food, and cultural traditions are passed down through families and communities. Participants will explore the cultural meaning behind everyday herbs and vegetables before being guided step-by-step through starting their own seeds to grow at home. This welcoming, hands-on session is designed for all ages and experience levels and sets the foundation for the full Roots & Recipes series.
Participants will:
- Learn how seeds connect to cultural food traditions
- Start seeds to take home and grow
- Share food memories, recipes, and cultural connections
Learn how to start your seeds indoors this season with Safiyat, a certified garden consultant, founder and owner of Tasty Harvest, a local Garden Coach. Get vegetable seeds, such as tomatoes, greens, and herbs, from the Seed Lending Library and start your garden season off right.
This program is funded in part by a grant from the Framingham Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

The Irish in Boston
Anthony Sammarco will present an illustrated lecture on “The Boston Irish." He will explore the 19th and 20th century people and institutions that were founded by and for the Irish immigrants and their descendants. Some of the prominent ones are Boston College, Carney Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, the House of the Good Shepherd, the House of the Angel Guardian, and many churches such as the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Immaculate Conception in Boston's South End. Many people think that the Irish immigration of the 1840s changed the face of Boston over the ensuing century. Generations of Irish in Boston have contributed to the fabric of the city's life in business, government, and the church.

AARP Tax Aide
IRS trained and certified AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will be available (by appointment only) to prepare your 2025 Federal and State Income tax returns. This program is designed to assist all people of low to middle income with special attention given to those aged 60 and older. This is a free program that is unable to process complex returns. A list of documentation required for your appointment will be emailed to you with your confirmation and also available at the McAuliffe branch library.

Thursday Night Concert | Harmony Grove: A Legacy of Justice and Equality in Framingham
Framingham’s Harmony Grove is the home of gatherings in the 1850s which were the largest anti-slavery and pro-suffrage gatherings in the nation. Inspired by this history, the Harmony Grove ensemble presents a program of songs which continue the tradition of promoting justice and equality and celebrate the diversity of our city. The evening will include songs from the Civil Rights and other justice movements, as well as contemporary compositions, including some originals by group members. Comprised of seasoned, professional musicians, Harmony Grove endeavors to entertain while presenting a vision which offers hope, joy and possibility in an often troubled world.
