Lifelong Learning: Exploring Humane Standards in Animal Agriculture through Documentary Film

Dr. Audrey Kali talks about the making of her documentary film, Farm and Red Moon. The film follows Dr. Kali as she visits farms and slaughterhouses and meets with experts to reveal the ambiguous moral underbelly of humane animal slaughter. 

What starts out as a concern for animals becomes a story about people. What she once saw as senseless acts of violence, she understands as a complicated agricultural system, pursued by decent people fully cognizant of the contradictions and complexity of their actions.

Join the Framingham History Center (FHC) for a program series titled “Craft with History.” Throughout the year, an object or topic with craft-related history will be pulled from the FHC collection to be featured alongside a craft workshop. These 60-minute workshops will be led by a local crafter, and did we mention there will be wine? Bring a friend for a fun night out at the museum!

Features historic signatures and handwritten letters, craft is introduction to calligraphy.

Must be 21+. Supplies will be provided. Space is limited.

This Lifelong Learning Lecture is postponed due to inclement weather.

Our food systems have many immediate challenges, including sustainable production, food insecurity, food wastage, and healthy diets. The food industry is often a key part of these systems. 

Finding a reasonable solution to these challenges may hinge on or be hindered by food manufacturers. This lecture examines the role of the food industry in addressing these challenges—whether it makes a case for or against the food industry is to be determined.

We're so excited to welcome horror authors Kayla Cottingham, Christopher Golden, Eric LaRocca, Hillary Monahan, Errick Nunnally, and Paul Tremblay to Ashland for our very first Mini-Fest! If you've read their books, you already know they are spooky, thought provoking, and scare-your-pants off fun. The day will include a panel discussion (which will be recorded if you can't make it to the live event), small group conversations, and a book sale/signing. So, grab your horror lovin' friends (because it's no fun to be so scared on your own), and come on down to the Ashland library!

Books for the book sale will be provided by Aesop's Fable. You can PREORDER books by any of our authors and Aesop's will bring your books to the Fest - easy peasy and no worries that they'll sell out! - https://aesopsfable.com/pages/horror-festival
