Book Discussion: “The Japanese Lover” by Isabel Allende

A magical and sweeping love story and multigenerational epic that stretches from San Francisco in the present-day to Poland and the United States during World War II. In 1939, as Poland falls under the shadow of the Nazis, Alma Belasco’s parents send her away to live in safety with an aunt and uncle in San Francisco. There, as the rest of the world goes to war, she encounters Ichimei Fukuda, the quiet and gentle son of the family’s Japanese gardener. Unnoticed by those around them, a tender love affair begins to blossom.

Available to borrow by eBook and audiobook on Overdrive, request a copy through the Minuteman Catalog or one being held at McAuliffe. Led by Brigitte Griffin.  Register for the Zoom Link at: http://bit.ly/FPL-Events. The title for our June 8 discussion is TBD

Book Discussion: “The Binding” by Bridget Collins thumbnail Photo

Book Discussion: “The Binding” by Bridget Collins

It's a world in which people visit book binders to rid themselves of painful or treacherous memories. Once their stories have been told and are bound between the pages of a book, the slate is wiped clean and their memories lose the power to hurt or haunt them. Emmett Farmer is sent to the workshop of one such binder to live and work as her apprentice. He is forbidden to enter the locked room where books are stored, so he spends many months marbling end pages, tooling leather book covers, and gilding edges.

Led by Jillian Holmberg. Register for the Zoom Link at: http://bit.ly/FPL-Events. Available to borrow by eBook on Overdrive, ebook or audiobook on Hoopla, request a copy through the Minuteman Catalog, or one being held at McAuliffe. The title for our June 15 discussion is TBD.
