Lifelong Learning Lecture Series: Border Crossings: The Early Work of Irish Playwright Brian Friel
When Brian Friel died in October 2015, the New York Times eulogized him as “the Irish Chekhov,” noting his “distinctive blend of melancholy and humor.” The Guardian called him “the father of modern Irish drama.” Friel has long been acclaimed as Ireland’s leading contemporary playwright, having scripted 24 plays for Broadway and West End theatres, many of which depict pivotal moments in Irish history or Northern Irish political unrest. This talk focuses on Friel’s early work—his beginnings—in which lay the seeds of his prodigious career.

A Christmas Carol: A Dramatic Reading with Helen Heineman
This reading is an annual tradition! Don’t miss the opportunity to see Charles Dickens’ masterpiece come to life! Dickens prepared a special version of “A Christmas Carol” that he used during reading tours in England and the United States, ending in Boston. Dr. Heineman will perform a dramatized reading of this version, enhanced by a slideshow of over 205 illustrations.

Neurodiverse Storytime
This story time is particularly designed for neurodiverse children — children who are on the autism spectrum, have sensory processing challenges, ADHD, or have difficulty sitting through our other storytimes. In this 1994 adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic, the March sisters confront growing pains, financial shortages, family tragedies and romantic rivalries in mid-19th-century Massachusetts. Create your own paper airplane from the wonderful designs we have available. Grades 4-6
Beginner Sewing Workshop
Learn to use a sewing machine and make your own pillowcase! Choose from our fabrics 30 mins before the program start or bring your own.
If bringing your own you need two fabrics. Body: 3/4 yd (28" x 42") and Cuff: 3/8 yd (12" x 24").
