We will be celebrating AAPI month by honoring the tradition of Chinese paper cutting. Used in festivals, weddings and other major life events to decorate interior spaces, doors and windows, artists create intricate and complicated patterns to express beauty, well wishes and life aspirations. The art of Chinese paper cutting dates back to the creation of paper itself by Cai Lun in 105 CE, but there are records of Chinese artists carving patterns in thin materials such as leaves, silk and leather from even earlier!

Shubeik Lubeik--a fairytale rhyme meaning "Your Wish is My Command" in Arabic--is the story of three characters navigating a world where wishes are literally for sale; mired in bureaucracy and the familiar prejudices of our world, the more expensive the wish, the more powerful and therefore the more likely to work as intended. The novel's three distinct parts tell the story of three first class wishes as used by Aziza, Nour, and Shokry, each grappling with the challenge inherent in trying to make your most deeply held desire come true.

To celebrate AAPI Month, we’re making Koinobori! Koinobori, meaning 'carp streamer' in Japanese, are carp-shaped windsocks traditionally flown in Japan to celebrate Tango no sekku, a traditional calendrical event which is now designated as Children's Day, a national holiday in Japan. Make your own Koinobori with cardboard rolls, construction paper, and tissue paper!

Come celebrate AAPI Month by painting the national flower and national tree of Thailand! The ratchaphruek is referred to as the “golden shower / rain tree” because of its beautiful cascading golden flowers, a color which represents unity, harmony and glory. In Thai, the ratchaphruek means “the royal tree” and is associated with the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts!
