Brazilian Dance Demonstration
To celebrate the Brazilian Independence Day, "Arreimar - arts and education" brings to the Framingham Public Library a piece of our culture that celebrates the people's resistance. In this welcoming demonstration of Frevo, we invite all ages and bodies to join the most valuable part of our country, the people! Frevo dance workshop and demonstration will offer for all attendees to feel close to this wonderful and unique Brazilian tradition.

We'll be hosting 40+ authors ranging from creepy kidlit to adult horror, four publishers, several vendors of interesting and mysterious items, and a brewery! We invite you to join us for an all-ages afternoon of Brazilian dance and stories. At 2 p.m., Rejane de Musis hosts a special music and story-time event in Portuguese. At 3 p.m., join Mass Capoeira for an all-ages dynamic and interactive performance, including live music and singing, explanations of basic movements, acrobatic solos, and a capoeira roda, where the complete experience of playing capoeira in a traditional circle will be demonstrated. Audience participation is welcome and encouraged!

McAuliffe Evening Book Discussion: When You Trap a Tiger by Tae Keller
When Lily and her family move in with her sick grandmother, a magical tiger straight out of her halmoni's Korean folktales arrives, prompting Lily to unravel a secret family history. Long, long ago, Halmoni stole something from the tigers. Now they want it back. And when one of the tigers approaches Lily with a deal--return what her grandmother stole in exchange for Halmoni's health--Lily is tempted to agree. But deals with tigers are never what they seem! Lifelong Learning Lectures: The Brontë‘s of Haworth
Guest speaker: Dr. Helen Heineman, President Emerita, Framingham State University
The genius of the Brontës lies in the closeness of their sisterhood and shared imaginative life, as well as in their unusual isolation and narrow experience. The most autobiographical of novelists, all the sisters tell stories of women’s struggles for independence and for emotional and intellectual satisfaction.
Their works also have decided bases in their time, the Victorian period, and place, the Yorkshire Moors. This talk presents an illustrated view of the biographical, historical, cultural, and geographic backgrounds of the Brontës and to the universality of their works, addressed first and last to “the unchanging human heart.”

Haunted House Decorating Contest
Show off your spooky decorating skills! We provide the base, you decorate it.
Registration starts Monday, Sept 16. Pick up your base from the McAuliffe Branch starting Monday, Sept. 30 and return it by Friday, Oct. 18 to be included in the contest.
Decorate at home or come to a drop-in decorating session at McAuliffe on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 12-4PM or Wed. Oct. 9 from 5-8PM to use the library’s supplies.
Voting will take place from Oct 21-27.

New England weather is changing at a faster rate than most of the country — seeing more frequent severe weather events in recent years including extreme heat, flooding rainfall, tornadoes, and tropical systems.
